Polyaspartic Floor Coatings: The Next Generation of Concrete Protection

While epoxy has been the industry standard for decades, polyaspartic technology represents a massive leap forward in concrete protection. Polyaspartic coatings resist UV yellowing better than traditional epoxy because they are designed to withstand prolonged sun exposure, making them the superior choice for Mountain West properties.

    Why We Specify Polyaspartic Topcoats

    100% UV Stability

Traditional epoxy chalks and turns a yellowish-amber color when exposed to sunlight. Polyaspartic coatings are completely UV stable. Even in high-altitude environments with intense sun exposure, a polyaspartic floor will retain its crystal-clear finish and vibrant flake colors for decades.

    Extreme Temperature Flexibility

The Mountain West is known for rapid temperature swings. A rigid coating will crack as the concrete expands and contracts. Freeze-thaw cycles can cause existing concrete cracks to expand over time. Polyaspartic materials possess inherent flexibility, allowing the coating to move with the slab during these cycles without fracturing or delaminating.

    Rapid Return to Service

Epoxy can take up to a week to fully cure before it can handle vehicle traffic. Polyaspartic coatings cure rapidly. In most cases, you can walk on the floor within hours and park your heavy vehicles on it the very next day.

    Common Polyaspartic Installation Mistakes

While polyaspartic is an incredible material, it is highly sensitive during the application process. Most coating failures occur because the concrete was not mechanically ground before installation, or because the installer ignored high moisture vapor transmission in the slab.

Because polyaspartic cures so quickly, it does not penetrate deep into concrete pores like a slower-curing 100% solids epoxy. This is why we use a hybrid system: a deep-penetrating epoxy primer to lock out moisture and establish a mechanical bond, topped with polyaspartic for UV stability and abrasion resistance.
