Metallic Epoxy vs. Flake Systems
Choosing the right aesthetic for your floor is just as important as the chemistry. The two most popular high-end finishes are Metallic Epoxy and Full-Broadcast Flake systems. Here is how to choose the right one for your space.
Full-Broadcast Flake Systems
This is the gold standard for residential garages and heavy-duty shops. We broadcast colored vinyl flakes into the wet base coat until the floor is completely covered, then seal it with a clear polyaspartic topcoat.
- Slip Resistance: The flakes provide essential texture, making the floor safe when wet from snowmelt or rain.
- Hides Imperfections: The busy pattern easily hides dust, dirt, and minor concrete imperfections.
- Durability: The flakes add an extra layer of structural thickness to the coating.
Metallic Epoxy
Metallic floors use metallic pigments mixed into clear epoxy to create a flowing, three-dimensional, marble-like finish. They are absolutely stunning and unique.
- Aesthetics: Perfect for showrooms, man caves, and interior spaces where you want a "wow" factor.
- Slip Factor: Because they are smooth and glass-like, they can be very slippery when wet unless an anti-slip additive is used.
- Maintenance: They show dust and scratches more easily than flake floors, requiring more frequent dust-mopping.
