Garage Floor Coating Maintenance Guide
One of the biggest advantages of a polyaspartic garage floor coating is how incredibly easy it is to maintain. Because the surface is seamless and non-porous, dirt, oil, and winter road salts cannot penetrate the floor. With minimal effort, you can keep your garage looking showroom-ready for decades.
Routine Cleaning (Weekly/Monthly)
For standard dust, dirt, and debris, routine cleaning is simple:
- Sweep or Blow: Use a soft-bristled push broom or a leaf blower to remove loose dirt, leaves, and dust.
- Mop: Use a standard foam or microfiber mop with warm water. For slightly dirtier floors, add a few ounces of a gentle, neutral pH cleaner (like Simple Green or a mild dish soap).
- Squeegee: Because the floor is non-porous, water will pool rather than soak in. Use a foam squeegee to push excess water out the garage door for a fast, streak-free dry.
Handling Spills & Stains
Polyaspartic coatings are highly chemical resistant, but prompt cleanup is always best:
- Oil and Automotive Fluids: Simply wipe up with a paper towel or shop rag. The oil will not penetrate or stain the topcoat.
- Harsh Chemicals: If brake fluid, battery acid, or harsh solvents spill, wipe them up immediately and rinse the area with water. While the floor is highly resistant, leaving harsh corrosives sitting for days can eventually dull the finish.
- Tire Marks: Occasionally, high-performance tires may leave a scuff mark. These can usually be removed with a mild degreaser and a soft nylon brush.
What NOT to Use
Avoid these products to protect your floor's glossy finish:
- Harsh Acids: Never use muriatic acid or harsh acidic cleaners.
- Abrasive Scrubbers: Do not use steel wool, stiff wire brushes, or abrasive scrubbing pads, as they can scratch the clear coat.
- Soap Residue: Avoid using excessive amounts of cheap soap, as it can leave a hazy film on the floor when it dries. Stick to neutral pH cleaners.
